A good way to start off the Yuletide festivities is to attend one of Whistler’s many events leading up to Christmas.
Traveling with the little ones? If you’d like to stay away from the winter breeze for a bit, head over to the indoor family fun zone at Whistler Conference Centre, open daily 10 AM – 6 PM (with some exceptions). Kids can enjoy a mini putt course, table games, bouncy castles, crafts and video games free. But if you’d like to make the most of a winter’s day outside, Family Après is available for free Mondays & Thursdays from December 9 to January 2 at Whistler Olympic Plaza. Parents can share stories about their day with a warm beverage while the kids participate in a variety of outdoor, winter activities and entertainment each week.
Still in need of some stocking stuffers? Made in Whistler Winter Artisan Market at Westin Resort & Spa is the place to find unique local gifts. Escape from the cold and explore an array of unique, handmade treasures at one of Whistler’s favourite, indoor artisan markets. You’ll find handcrafted jewellery, pottery, fine art, unique fashions and artisanal foods – the perfect gifts for yourself and your loved ones. The Artisan Market is held in December on the 15,22,23,27 and 28 from 12 – 5 PM.
Looking for something to do after a day of skiing? Every Sunday night during winter, go check out the legendary Fire & Ice Show in Skier’s Plaza. Whistler’s best skiers and riders jump and flip through a blazing ring of fire accompanied by fire spinners, a DJ and fireworks display. An electrifying evening of free, live entertainment to enjoy with family and friends. Sundays from December 22 onwards, show is on at 7 PM.
Hoping to meet Santa? Santa’s Sleigh and Boot Drive with Whistler’s Firefighters is coming through town December 23rd at 3-6 pm. Join Santa in his sleigh high atop our Vintage, 1974 Thibault Fire Truck for a free photo opportunity. Have a chat with the Jolly Old Elf himself and let him know your dreams and wishes for Christmas this year. Donations are appreciated with all monies raised going directly to the BC Professional Firefighters Burn Fund.
Any singers out there? The 36th annual Christmas Eve Carol Service is hosted by the Whistler Children’s Chorus and Whistler Singers at the Westin Resort & Spa December 24th at 6:30 PM. It’s an interdenominational celebration featuring traditional carols, choral music sung by the choirs and readings by community members telling the story of the birth of Christ. Come and enjoy the sense of community and peace and goodwill towards all’ that this carol service creates. Entry is by donation.
